Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Tomasz G. Smolinski
Dr. Tomasz G. Smolinski is an associate professor of computer science at Delaware State University and principal investigator of the Computational Intelligence in Bio[logical] and Legal Informatics (CIBiLI) Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Louisville and a J.D. with a focus on Native American and Intellectual Property law from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. His research spans computational intelligence, machine learning, data mining, computational neuroscience, bioinformatics and legal informatics.
Dr. Smolinski has taught and mentored students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Delaware State University for almost two decades. Through the CIBiLI Lab, his research applies these methods to complex problems in computational neuroscience, bioinformatics and legal informatics. He also brings a distinctive interdisciplinary perspective to his work, having completed a J.D. with coursework and legal experience focused on Native American law and policy, including service as a Summer Law Clerk at the Native American Rights Fund.
He is co-editor of Computational Intelligence in Biomedicine and Bioinformatics: Current Trends and Applications (Springer, 2008) and has published extensively in computational intelligence and its applications to biological systems. Recognized by students for making complex material accessible through hands-on learning and practical application, Dr. Smolinski brings deep technical expertise and a genuine commitment to student success to the MS in Computer Science program.
