Transfer Students
Continue Your Education in Our Welcoming Community
Join a network of transfer students who are completing their bachelor’s and master’s degrees with Delaware State University. Here are key details for transferring credits:
- You will need to submit official transcripts from every higher education institution you’ve attended since high school. Transcripts can be sent through online credential services like the National Student Clearinghouse or Parchment, or you can mail them to DSU’s Office of Admissions.
- Courses taken more than 10 years ago are not automatically accepted. Their eligibility is determined at the discretion of the relevant academic department.
- If you plan to take courses at another institution and transfer them to DSU, have those courses pre-evaluated using our Approval to Transfer Credits form. Our Department Chairs will review your form to determine if courses can be transferred and how they align with our general education or major requirements.
- Correspondence courses, including those from distance education programs, are not eligible for transfer credit.
Be sure to ask about scholarships for transfer students when you request information. For instance, scholarships may be available to students who earned an associate degree from Delaware Technical Community College (DTCC) with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

- In-state tuition for active-duty and veteran service members using GI Bill® benefits
- A tuition rate of $250 per credit hour for undergraduate students who receive military tuition assistance (TA),** with waived registration fees
- Army Aviation Scholarships that provide full tuition, a monthly stipend and funds for books to ROTC and aviation students
- External military scholarships for students who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard
Receive Credit for Your Experience
Your military service provides more than knowledge and skills, as you may be able to receive credit for your experience. The options include:
- ACE-recommended college credits for professional military education, training and occupational experience
- Prior learning assessments (PLAs) that provide credit for professional military education, leadership training and other military experiences related to DSU’s online degree programs

Our admission process is designed to be straightforward and accessible.
Submit an online application and official transcripts from all colleges you’ve attended. If you have fewer than 30 college credits, also send your high school transcript or General Educational Development scores. We’ll review your application within 24 to 48 hours.
We use a holistic approach that looks at your full profile, not just test scores. Application fee waivers are available, and our admissions counselors will support you throughout the process.
If you’ve had gaps in your education or faced challenges, don’t worry. Many of our students are returning to college after time away. We’re here to help you succeed — that’s part of our mission as a Historically Black College and University.
We review applications quickly — typically within 24 to 48 hours after you submit everything.
We use rolling admissions, which means you can apply whenever you’re ready rather than trying to meet specific deadlines. Once your application is reviewed, you’ll hear from us through your admissions portal and university email.
For financial aid, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Our priority deadline is March 15, but we accept applications year-round. If you’re selected for verification, that process usually takes two to three weeks.
We welcome international students and can issue visa documents for on-campus programs. However, federal rules don’t allow student visas for fully online programs.

Yes, we recognize that you’ve learned valuable skills outside the classroom.
For work experience, our Prior Learning Assessment process lets you document what you’ve learned through your career and training. You’ll create a portfolio that faculty review to see if it matches college-level learning.
For military service, we accept credit from your Joint Services Transcript, Community College of the Air Force, and military training that’s been recommended by the American Council on Education. This includes your job-specific military training and leadership courses.

We use eight-week terms so you can focus on fewer courses at a time and finish faster. Most coursework is asynchronous — you complete it on your schedule, not at specific times. This flexibility works for professionals balancing jobs and families.
Our faculty understand adult life and have taught thousands of working professionals. Our admissions process looks at your full experience, not just test scores. You can earn credit for work experience and transfer up to 90 credits from other higher education institutions for undergraduate programs and 9 for graduate programs.
Support services like advising and tutoring are available evenings and weekends when working adults need them. We offer payment plans and accept employer tuition assistance.

**If a student withdraws from a course before completing 60% of it, DSU must return the unearned TA funds to DoD, per DoD policy. DSU follows a standard formula to calculate how much TA is “earned” based on attendance (days) vs. total course days.
