The hospitality and tourism industry is incessantly changing and must adapt to the changing consumer and employee needs, while staying alert and adopting strategies that will mitigate compliance risks and drive efficiencies across the organization. This course focuses on the identification and analyses of financial and cost structures currently being used to predict future profits, financing hospitality businesses, cost structures, based on industry trends and organization goals, while maintaining profit margins. Topics include: applications of discounting techniques, evaluation of capital expenditures and estimating cost of capital Hospitality analytics will be studied and evaluated for hospitality lodging components, providing the opportunity for students to earn the “Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics, (CHIA) designation.

The course focuses on designing and implementing research projects related to strategic challenges faced by hospitality and tourism leaders. Emphasis will be placed on strategic planning by employing the newest technology and information systems to gain competitive advantages and improve the hospitality and tourism position in a global marketplace. The course will also focus on information systems to monitor and assess operations to include front of the house and back of the house operations.
